Handwork

"The human hand is an amazing tool, equipped with strengths, sensitivity, and memory.” We'll learn plant-dyed yarn, engaging in knitting, crocheting, sewing, weaving, and spinning. Colors from nature are believed to positively impact our well-being as we work with them. Depending on your ability, you'll begin with a simple weaving project or loom knitting, progressing to embroidery and sewing. Knitting, crocheting, and machine sewing will be introduced later.

Painting

In this class, you'll learn the wonder of color using the wet-on-wet technique. Whether you're a novice or an experienced artist, this method provides an opportunity to learn about the unique qualities of each color.

Sculupture

Learning the techniques and processes of working with clay to create items of beauty and utility.

Studio Art

Studio Art follows the seven elements of art throughout the semester. We will learn about line, shape, space, value, color, texture and form. Together, we discuss why art is important form of communication and how we can express ourselves with our color choices, line expressions or forms. While exploring a variety of mediums, the participants will express their unique personality in a creative form. The class will culminate with an art show displaying the work of the semester.

Woodworking

Participants learn the craft of woodworking from master carpenters. Starting with basic skill building, they learn how to create functional and artistically rendered furniture, utensils, toys, candle and crystal holders, carved bowls and more. Wooden items in the community are repaired in the woodshop, and items made are sold at local shops and fairs. Some of the woodworking products are sold and shipped nationwide. 

Culinary Arts 

We have modules of programming that begin with basic ADL cooking skills and can progress to working in a professional kitchen on or even beyond the Threefold Campus. 

Baking

In this hands-on baking class, participants will learn the art of creating a variety of delicious baked goods, from different breads, scones, crackers and muffins, as well as an array of cookies and other decadent desserts. Throughout the term, participants will learn the basics of baking, such as reading and understanding recipes, properly measuring ingredients and working safely in a shared kitchen space. Working together with their peers, participants will learn different baking techniques, such as dough preparation, mixing, and using the stove and oven, while exploring diverse recipes that can be recreated at home. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced baker, this class offers an interactive way to expand your baking skills, work collaboratively with others, and indulge in the joy of freshly made treats.

Drama/Theater Art

Participants work with different mediums as acting, movement, puppetry, playwriting, storytelling, physical theater to explore self expression, literacy, skill building and social emotional learning.

Music

Discover the musician in you! Our Music Classes are made just for you. Led by skilled instructors, you can explore instruments, singing, and more. Learn social skills and express yourself through music. Whether you're a beginner or preparing for formal lessons, we have individual or group classes to fit your needs. Join us for a musical adventure!

VOCAL-Chorus

Join our chorus and discover your voice while listening to others. Dive into beats, rhythms, rounds, canons, and simple part-singing. We use a songbook for visual guidance, add clapping, stomping, and more to stay in sync, and sometimes, enjoy accompaniment with drums or piano. Let's make music together!

INSTRUMENTAL

Discover the tones and harmonies of various instruments, collaborate with others, and craft beautiful melodies. Develop the skill to read and play together, listen attentively, and improve your coordination. Whether it's strings, wind, or percussion instruments, join us on a musical journey where your instrument becomes your voice.

Poetry

Explore the art of poetry through rhythm, sound, syllables, meter, rhyme, themes, and style. Dive into various poetic forms like haiku, acrostics, pentameter, trimeter, sonnets, limericks, free verse, song lyrics, and odes. Immerse yourself in the beauty of language and expression.

Book Club

Boost reading skills and socialize over shared interests! Dive into short novels and classics with us. Explore style, context, and themes actively. Engage in creative exercises—draw scenes, make predictions. Discuss thoughts and impressions. Elevate comprehension and creativity in a vibrant community of readers. Join our class where stories come alive!

Home Economics

Making a bed, cleaning a window, keeping track of spending and debit card use. Or, folding clothes, ordering a meal in a restaurant, making an appointment or planning a trip. Working on the skills we need.
